Week 9: A Wide World of Comics

For this week's blog post, I read one of the "Blacksad" comics. The one I read was "Amarillo." I think personally this ended up being one of my favorite comics I've read this semester. It was full of action, color, and entertaining as hell. I kind of liked that the comic was done like "Maus" and the people were animals. I liked it even better because there were way more different types of animals than in "Maus." I've only done a couple illustrations with stylized human-like animals and they are not always easy to portray emotions with and I think this comic artist did a fantastic job with the balance of human emotion and movements with animalistic features. I think the story telling was done really well and the action panels were especially successful. The movement within the panels translated really well in my opinion and it was almost like watching a movie but with one of those old view masters so it's only one frame at a time ...

Week 14: The Future of Comics

For this last week of comics with the topic being "The Future of Comics" I decided to read some of my personal favorites. So with the future of comics I think one of the major advances made was bringing comics to phones through apps. I've got an app called Webtoons and I'm addicted to two of the comics on there. The comics are seperated into chunks like episodes that you'd watch with a show on like Netflix or Hulu, etc. Depending on when you find a comic there could either be a ton of comic "episodes" to read or there could only be a handful. The frustrating but also super smart thing that Webtoons does is that new comics are released every week or you could pay to read the next 3 early. I never pay for them because #college #imbroke but it is SO hard to wait sometimes! The comics I read religiously are Assassin Roommate and Lore Olympus . Week 12: Comics by Women

For this week's blog post, I read some of the "She-Hulk" comics along with some of the comics we were reading from in class but for this post, I'll be focusing more on the "She-Hulk" comics. I want to focus more on these because I can compare them to man-made comics that star women heroes. The biggest difference you can immediately notice is the style and body proportions. In most comics with just well any woman in it really, you'd see super unrealistic body proportions. You know which ones I'm talking about. The tiny tiny waist, the giant boobs, the similar facial features to all other women heroes in comics, and the lack of variety of shapes and sizes within the comics in general. Yes, in this comic She-Hulk does have fairly big boobs but the difference here was that they were more natural in shape AND you couldn't see her nipples 24/7 and they didn't look like they could stab your eye out because in men's comics those ones are clearly...
